Now that you’ve done that, let us start with the origins of this betting system. This betting system was named after famous French physician and mathematician Jean-Baptiste le Rond d’Alembert, who lived in the 18th century. He is known for his work in the equilibrium of numbers. Now, how does this betting system work? The d’Alembert system is a negative progression betting system – similar to the martingale system. Both betting systems instruct the bettor to increase their original stake in the event of a loss and decrease their original stake in the event of a win. However, the main difference between the two systems is that the martingale system is quite dramatic in its approach, whereas the d’Alembert system can be described as more conservative in its efforts.

Let us now learn how to apply the d’Alembert betting system:

  • Number 1. The first step in the d’Alembert system instructs the bettor to decide on a base stake. This could be any percentage of your bankroll, but we recommend you stay within the range of 2-5% of your total bankroll.
  • Number 2. The next step is to stake your base unit on a wager. And continue to increase or decrease this stake by one unit according to the result of the previous bet.
  • Number 3. If the bettor experiences a loss, he must increase his stake by a single unit rather than doubling it as the Martingale system recommends.
  • Number 4. Similarly, when experiencing a win, the d’Alembert system proposes that you simply reduce the stake by 1 unit before placing the next bet.

Now that you know more about this system, it’s important that you familiarize yourself with both the advantages and the disadvantages of using such a betting system to stake your bets. As a bettor, knowing your pros and cons gives you the upper hand of leveraging the system.

The advantages of this system are quite clear:

  • Number 1. It keeps your bankroll in check
  • Number 2. And, it is suitable for players with a tight budget that do not want to overspend on bets

The Disadvantages of this system are that

  • Number 1. It cannot be used as a long term strategy
  • Number 2. It can be damaging during a losing streak

Once you are keyed in on this lucrative betting system, you can experiment with different base stakes and unit increments or decrements to find what works best for you and your individual betting goals.
